A sign of things to come

We believe that clear, accessible information is of prime importance in changing people's opportunities and releasing people's potential worldwide. We are committed to putting our enthusiasms and energies towards achieving this result.

We also believe that the journey itself, the process by which the communication is achieved, offers tremendous opportunity for making positive choices.

Key strategies of Platform 1

  • Putting users first when creating design solutions, with particular emphasis on accessibility issues.
  • Openness and honesty between Platform 1 and all clients and suppliers.
  • Encouraging all clients to consider environmental choices, for instance of materials, production and distribution methods.
  • Using electronic media such as pdf files wherever possible, to send visuals to clients and artwork to press, to avoid more CDs in landfill sites.
  • Using only recycled paper for our own stationery.
  • Re-using all paper, where possible, for internal purposes, and re-using packaging.
  • Contributing towards young designers, by supporting student placements.

Development agencies and charities make up the large majority of our clients. We do not see ourselves in isolation from the commercial world though (we use gas in our cookers too). We work for a range of commercial clients and we apply the same ethos.

We seek to avoid working for clients who we feel have a negative impact on society or the natural world.

We acknowledge that Platform 1 is only a small part of the world picture, but we do not choose inaction in the face of that.
